Bio
Betsy Resnick
I have always been interested in body adornment. From the first
time as a kid, as I covered myself with paint, stickers and
band-aid’s, I have always enjoyed the pursuit of decorating
my body.
I grew up in Philadelphia. I spent almost every Sunday of my
teenage years going out to my Grandfathers coppersmithing shop with
my cousin. There, he patiently taught us basic jewelry making using
coppersmithing techniques. Growing up in the city, I often found
myself picking up strange and interesting objects off the street.
Rusty washers, bottle caps, different stuff would catch my eye.
This led to looking at things that were discarded in a different
way. I wanted to incorporate these things into my
art.
As I went to college to study metalsmithing, I was able to
bring with me strange ideas of things that I wanted to
incorporate into my work and also some of the unusual thinking that
I learned from my grandfather.
I graduated from the School for American Craftsmen in Rochester, NY
in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I have been an
independent jewelry maker since, and now I have my studio in
Seattle, WA.
